Pet Rats for Rehoming – $50–$150 Rehoming Fee (As per compliance with Craigslist suggested pricing and ToS. Price negotiable heavily upon contact.)
I am looking to responsibly rehome my domesticated pet rats. They are the second generation of rats I have raised in my care, and this is a very difficult decision for me. Unfortunately, I simply have too many, and due to health concerns, my fiancée and I can no longer keep them. We are both allergic to them, and there are additional health-related reasons that make it necessary for us to find them new homes.
There are approximately six boys and four girls available. One of the girls currently has four young babies, and if you adopt her, the babies will need to go with her.
The boys are incredibly affectionate. They are like little dogs—sweet, social, loving, and will often come when called. They have wonderful personalities, and I love them dearly. It genuinely hurts to have to let them go.
The girls are less interested in being handled. They are not aggressive in any way, but they are more independent and generally prefer not to be handled very much. They are happiest when allowed to explore and do their own thing.
My rats have never been sick and have never required veterinary care. They are currently around a year old, so they should still have approximately another year to a year and a half of expected lifespan with good care.
If you are interested in breeding, you may adopt both a male and a female. However, please understand that rats are capable of producing large litters, often well over six babies at a time. Please only consider breeding if you are prepared for the responsibility of caring for and finding homes for the offspring.
These rats are very well behaved and generally prefer to keep their living space clean. They naturally tend to use the bathroom in the same areas of their enclosure, so providing them with a designated litter area can make cage cleaning much easier.
Please read the following before contacting me:
- Rehoming fee: $50–$150, depending on how many you are adopting. This fee is intended to help ensure they go to committed, responsible homes.
- You must bring your own carrier or suitable transport. I do not have enough cages or carriers available for everyone to transport them home safely.
- I cannot provide food, water bottles, or other supplies, so you will need to provide your own. If you're new to keeping rats, I recommend stopping by a pet store afterward to pick up the essentials or ask staff for guidance.
- I highly recommend providing them with a large, spacious cage. Rats do not do well in cramped enclosures.
- Rats are prone to respiratory infections, so they should be kept in a clean, well-ventilated environment. While mine have never experienced any health issues, prospective adopters should understand that veterinary care may become necessary during their lifetime and should be prepared for that responsibility.
My priority is finding these rats safe, caring, and responsible homes where they will be well looked after. If you have any questions or would like to meet them, feel free to reach out.
